At Monkey Puzzle Day Nurseries our approach to your child’s development starts with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum and goes way further to help your child make the most of their time at nursery and prepare them for the journey ahead.
We follow the Government’s Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework which sets the standards for learning, development, and care for children from birth up to 5 years of age.
The principles which guide the work of our Early Years Professionals are grouped into four themes:
- A unique child – every child is a competent leaner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident and self assured
- Positive Relationships – children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships with parents and/or key person
- Enabling Environments – the environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children’s development and learning
- Learning and Development – children develop and learn in different ways and at different times; all areas of learning and development are equally important and inter-connected.
There are three prime areas of learning in which our Early Years Professionals support children to learn and develop. These are:
- Personal, social and emotional development
- Communication and language
- Physical development
Plus four specific areas of learning. These are:
- Knowledge and understanding of the world
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Expressive arts and design
Each child has their own key person to enable them to feel reassured, safe and cared for within our setting. This person also keeps a detailed Learning Journey of the child’s progress during their time with us. These records are available to be viewed and discussed at any time by parents, who are always encouraged to add details of their child’s experiences from outside the nursery.
If you have any specific questions about the curriculum, please get in touch with our manager, who will be happy to answer any questions.
Babies curriculum
Your baby will learn through our own curriculum that focuses on the magic of play and discovery. Our trained staff have a passion for providing memorable learning experiences with expertise in the specific areas of the EYFS that your child will need to develop and progress through their infancy. Building your child’s communication and language, supporting their physical development, and boosting their social and emotional development is our prime focus at this stage.
Toddler curriculum
Our curriculum at toddler stage focuses on learning through play and experiences. At this age your child will have greater opportunities to explore expressive arts and design, literacy, mathematics, and understanding the world. Our curriculum is not confined to four walls and we find that learning can happen in every space including the outdoors, and the world around us.
Preschool curriculum
In our preschool your child will experience a full range of learning activities to prepare them for life at under 5 and beyond, so they are ready to take that important step when they start big school. They will be guided in developing their social and emotional intelligence, exploring their creativity and imagination, and being immersed in an environment full of literacy and mathematics. We start to discover more of the outdoors, enjoying interacting with other members of the local community and learning about the world around us by exploring different cultures and events. Our preschool has been recommended by local schools who find our children to be emotionally ready for school when they start.
